Most prominent is an autobiography containing forty pages describing his military life, bombing missions, interactions with other LDS servicemen, and his leadership role in the LDS military branch. It also includes a photocopy of a letter informing Borup's wife that he was missing in action, a telegram forwarded to his wife later affirming his safety, letters from the parents of Borup's fallen comrades expressing thanks for letters previously written by him, a photocopy of an account wherein his B-24 was shot down as part of the bombing raids at Balikpapan and he was miraculously rescued by a submarine, a photocopy of a talk given by Thomas S. Monson at an LDS conference in which he alludes to Borup's rescue experience, a personal letter thanking Monson for sharing his story, photocopied photographs of a group of LDS servicemen, and copies of newspaper articles citing Borup's commendations, missing in action status, and rescue. Also includes six photocopied newspaper articles, written by Air Force personnel, detailing the dangerous and militarily vital nature of the Balikpapan bombing raids, complete with before and after photographs of the destroyed oil fields. The collection also contains Borup's personal journals recalling his war and post-war experiences. Includes a photocopy of the 31st Bombardment Squadron newsletter in which Borup again describes his account of being shot down over the Pacific and his rescue, which he ascribes to divine intervention. Also includes a photocopy of a newspaper article discussing the organization of the LDS church within his military unit. Also contains a short genealogy of Borup, a list of his priesthood ordinations, an account of his church service, education, and employment, most of which was spent working for the LDS church.
